Hearst has announced the appointment of Asad Syrkett as editor-in-chief of the U.S. edition of Elle Decor.
Syrkett will be responsible for leading content strategy across the brand’s print and digital platforms.
He joins Elle Decor from Hem Design Studio where he oversaw all New York operations + East Coast business development.
He previously served in editorial roles at Curbed, Architectural Digest, and Architectural Record.
“In any genre, the most impactful journalism offers context, challenges its audience and explores its subjects in nuanced ways that enrich the reader’s perspective,” Syrkett said of his appointment.
“I’m excited to bring that to a best-in-class interiors magazine, on every platform,” he added.
In addition to his editorial pedigree Syrkett was also a 2017 Folio: 30 Under 30 honoree, has guest lectured for a Harvard Graduate School of Design seminar, appeared on panels for NYCxDESIGN, Design Miami and South by Southwest (SXSW), and co-hosted two seasons of a weekly design podcast, “The Curbed Appeal.”
Syrkett will begin his new role on September 14, reporting to Stellene Volandes who was named editorial director of Elle Decor in April.
He succeeds Whitney Robinson, who held the role for three years and stepped down earlier this year.
