LinkedIn’s fourth annual list of the Top 50 startups is out, and a total of 13 founders of color were among the list of this year’s hottest companies.
The list which includes companies that have become household mainstays such as DoorDash and Robinhood, is based on which companies have attracted the most attention, employees, and investments.
The list of companies started by people of color can be found below.
- Better Mortgage (Vishal Garg) is a New York-based lending company that uses technology to make the path to homeownership faster and more efficient following founder Vishal Garg’s own experiences going through traditional lenders.
- DoorDash (Tony Xu) is a meal delivery company that was founded in 2013 during the online food delivery renaissance by four enterprising Stanford students.
- Robinhood (Prafulkumar Bhatt, Vlad Tenev) is a financial services app that was one of the first of its kind to offer commission-free investing. The mobile app and website offer people the ability to invest in stocks, ETFs, and options through Robinhood Financial and crypto trading through Robinhood Crypto.
- Samsara (Sanjit Biswas) is an industrial internet of things company founded in 2015 by the co-founders of Meraki (now part of Cisco Systems). Its solutions combine hardware, software, and cloud to bring real-time visibility, analytics, and AI to operations. It currently serves 15,000 customers across diverse sizes and industries.
- Loom (Vinay Hiremath) is a workplace communication focused company that specializes in video messages founded in 2015. Dropbox is its parent company.
- BrightInsight (Kal Patel) is the leading global regulated IoT sales as a service platform for biopharma and medtech that is built to support and optimize up to Class III regulated drugs, devices, software, and Digital Therapeutics. It was founded in 2017.
- Capsule (Eric Kinariwala) is a New York-based online pharmacy startup that has made waves with its clever ads plastered on the NY subway and taxis. It was founded in 2015 by Eric Kinariwala.
- Nuro (Jiajun Zhu) is an American robotics company based in Mountain View, California and founded by Jiajun Zhu and Dave Ferguson in 2016.
- Confluent (Neha Narkhede) is an event streaming platform that enables companies to access enterprise data as real-time streams. It was founded by Neha Narkhede, Jay Kreps, Jun Rao in 2014.
- Instabase (Anant Bhardwaj) is a tech company that provides a broad technology platform which allows business to build workflows to access information in complex documents and automate business processes.
- Upkey (Amir Badr) is a student incubator that sets high school and college students up for success in the professional world, giving them an edge when it comes to landing an internship or job.
- Harness (Jyoti Bansal) is a DevOp company that helps developers code quickly and securely, making it the industry’s first continuous delivery-as-a-service platform.
- Rubrik (Bipul Sinha) is a cloud data management company based in Palo Alto, California, which helps enterprises achieve data control to drive business resiliency, cloud mobility, and regulatory compliance.
To be eligible to be featured, companies had to be seven years old or younger, have at least 50 employees and be privately held and headquartered in the U.S.
All businesses named range from e-learning to mortgage lending, indicating overall trends in the U.S. job sector and overall economy.
