Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) announced today that former VP of its general audience programming unit, Sylvia Bugg, is now chief programming executive and general manager of the same unit. The promotion is effective immediately and Bugg will report directly to PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger.
As chief programming executive and general manager, Bugg will be responsible for the acquisition and development of top-tier programming for PBS and its member stations, particularly showcasing stories that reflect the diversity of the Americas.
“At a time when the work of public television is more important than ever, Sylvia is the ideal leader to take on this critical role,” said Kerger.
Bugg led the advancement of diversity in the media industry by collaborating with content creators and organizations, as well as the initiative to leverage public television’s national platform to support the conversation around race in America, specifically to include the re-broadcast of films and other iconic series that explore race and the impact of racism.
Pinterest announced Tuesday the appointment of influential media industry leader Salaam Coleman Smith to its board of directors effective October 31, 2020.

Finally, Canela Media announced Tuesday the appointment of seasoned media sales industry professional Andres Rincon as the company’s senior vice president of sales. He will report directly to Isabel Rafferty, founder and CEO of Canela Media and will oversee the East Coast region.
Canela Media is a leading, Latina-owned digital media company dedicated to connecting brands with multicultural audiences and 1st Party Data that identifies first-, second- and third-generation Hispanics.
“Andres has a reputation that precedes him based on his deep understanding of the Hispanic marketplace and ability to translate that into campaigns that drive results for brands and organizations,” said Isabel Rafferty, founder and CEO of Canela Media.
He was the former vice president of sales and strategic partnerships for LATV Networks. Prior to joining LATV, Andres held key sales and management positions at Azteca America, Telemundo and CNBC Europe.
