Bozoma Saint John, Netflix’s newly-appointed chief marketing officer, was in the middle of her first week on the job when had to undergo an unexpected surgery. The former top marketing executive for Endeavor and Uber is well known for being a “bad ass” but this this time things didn’t go as planned. She updated her followers via social media over the weekend in two videos.
“In the middle of my excitement/nervousness/anticipation/eagerness, in the middle of feeling like I need to show up as my best self, boom, down I went,” Saint John wrote in an Instagram post. In a video, she warns and reminds her viewers of the importance of paying attention to their bodies, “if you feel something ain’t right, it ain’t right. Go get it checked out now.”
Saint John’s appointment makes her the first person of color to make it to Netflix’s top executive team. Since the announcement came out, she expressed her delight about starting the job this August, even writing on her Instagram post, “It is my prayer that we continue to celebrate more wins for the culture,” with the ✊🏿 emoji at the end, emphasizing that this milestone of hers goes to the Black community.
By Sunday, the streaming giant’s CMO seemed to be in good spirits. In a new Instagram video, Saint John is seen dancing in her bed to “All The Way Up” by Fat Joe and Remy Ma as her bed rises her forward.
