“TheGrio.TV is especially important to me as it will both serve and uplift all viewers,” said Byron Allen, founder, chairman and CEO of Allen Media Group. “TheGrio.TV is the first and only 100 percent African American-owned and targeted broadcast television network and free digital platform – making us truly authentic, without being filtered or controlled by others outside of the community.”

Carrying its new network brand slogan “Our Culture Forever,” TheGrio.TV will be home to African American-focused content in movies, sitcoms, dramas, concerts, talk shows, variety shows, game shows, news, and lifestyle, to reach over 100 million U.S. households via over-the-air broadcast television stations, cable, telco, satellite platforms, and free digital streaming.

TheGrio, a digital video-centric news community platform, is now one of the most visited news and entertainment sites for the African-American community, and is the largest employer of African-American journalists.

“I foresee [TheGrio] continuing to expand our audience, expand our reach. We will not just report the news, we will make the news,” Natasha Alford, vice president of digital content at TheGrio, told Marcom Weekly earlier this year.

The news platform achieved its peak of 10.5 million monthly active users at a time of national reckoning with race last summer.
