Bozoma Saint John proudly announces the publication of her memoir, “The Urgent Life: A Story of Love, Grief and Survival,” in 2022, in partnership with Viking Books/Penguin Random House. The Netflix executive says she is taking a big step forward as this is the first time she’ll be facing this challenge to put everything she has held in her heart, on every page.

The memoir will tell the story of the photos she took of her husband in his last few weeks, how she was taught by faith that she could survive the unimaginable and how she learned to accept change – fear it less and embrace it more.

The book announcement comes months after her emergency surgery during the summer.

“More than that, it is a testament to the trials that we all share, no matter where we grew up, how we were raised or how many accomplishments we’ve achieved,” Saint John said. “It is a reminder that we all face at times the most formidable of challenges, but as daunting as they may be, we can overcome them.⁣⁣⁣⁣”

Saint John got her start in marketing at Spike Lee’s advertising agency, SpikeDDB, before going on to manage brands within the PepsiCo beverages portfolio. She has also held roles at Apple, Uber and finally, Endeavor, where she was CMO for two years before joining Netflix.

She is the streaming giant’s newly-appointed chief marketing officer, making her the first person of color to make it to Netflix’s top executive team.
